Lincoln’s Sparrow is named after Thomas Lincoln (1812–1883), a 21-year-old friend and companion of famed naturalist John James Audubon. Thomas Lincoln collected the first specimen of this sparrow for Audubon in 1833 in Natashquan, Quebec, during an expedition to the coast of Labrador.
